Seven oil drilling heads were seized Tuesday in the military buffer zone in the Tunisian south.

Two smuggling cars coming from Libya were arrested in the military buffer zone near Sabkhet Taider, according to a Defence Ministry press release.

Daesh has reportedly attacked and taken over multiple oil fields in Libya. The militants shelled a major Libyan oil port in early January, and currently holds positions throughout the country.

The two cars refused to stop, constraining servicemen to fire warning shots then on them. One of the two cars stopped but the other one fled away to the Libyan territory, the same source explained.

The affiliation of the smugglers is unknown at this time.

“The seized oil drilling heads will be given to the customs services in the region,” the press release specifies.

As Daesh continues to spread in Libya, nearby Tunisia has tightened its borders and upped its nationwide security.
